
The Faculty of Media at Middle East University held an extensive general assembly meeting, attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Yaqoub Nasereddin; the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Ahmad Nasereddin; the University President, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin; the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ramez Abu Hsaera; and the faculty members.
The assembly served as a constructive dialogue platform to discuss preparations for the new academic year and explore practical mechanisms for elevating the standards of the faculty’s graduates. The goal is to ensure students are equipped with evolving skills that align with the rapid shifts in the media labour market, specifically concerning digital technology and modern media operational models.
In his address, Dr Yaqoub Nasereddin emphasised that the university regards media as a national and strategic mission aimed at preparing students to serve and defend national issues and convey accurate information with sound professionalism. He further asserted that integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and applications into the educational process is an urgent necessity dictated by the contemporary media landscape.
Complementing this strategic vision, Dr. Ahmad Nasereddin highlighted that the university has provided the optimal infrastructure for the faculty, including a dedicated building and cutting-edge studios, and is currently expanding these facilities with more advanced studios and specialised computer laboratories. This focus ensures the enhancement of the applied educational environment and the high quality of academic outputs, guaranteeing graduates possess comprehensive knowledge and professional competence by linking theoretical instruction with practical application.
Regarding academic development, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin confirmed that the enhancement of study plans represents a strategic priority to ensure alignment with the knowledge and skills required by the job market. She noted the university’s commitment to linking scientific research with addressing societal problems and fostering applied initiatives that support sustainable development.
Furthermore, Dr. Ramez Abu Hsaera, the Faculty Dean, focused on the importance of the periodic update of the study plans to maintain coherence with the latest developments in the digital media sector. He stressed the pivotal role of specialised digital laboratories and student project incubators as essential platforms for boosting graduate competitiveness and meeting the continuously evolving challenges of the job market.
During the subsequent discussion session, faculty members presented proposals primarily focussed on refining the study plans and reinforcing effective mechanisms for linking academic knowledge with practical field experiences. They advocated for adopting comprehensive assessment tools for learning outcomes to accurately measure students’ performance and competencies. Crucially, the necessity of methodologically integrating AI techniques into the educational process was affirmed, ensuring adherence to the ethical and professional values of journalism, and contributing to honing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, thereby strengthening their readiness for the demands of the media labour market.
