Dr Haya Yassin, a faculty member at Middle East University’s Faculty of Pharmacy, has co-organised a highly specialised international workshop entitled “Joint Early Career Researcher Workshop: Shaping a Research Agenda on Pharmacy and Substance Use Disorders in Jordan”. This academic initiative was delivered in partnership with scholars from the University of Jordan and the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, with vital funding support from the Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL).
Reflecting the collaborative significance of this event, the workshop engaged a diverse group of academics, researchers, and representatives from both the Ministry of Health and the Jordan Food and Drug Administration. This national cohort was further complemented by undergraduate and postgraduate students, alongside UK-based researchers participating via videoconference.
Building upon this collective expertise, the workshop served as a continuation of a research pathway initiated in 2025. This ongoing effort has successfully established key national priorities regarding the pharmacist’s role in addressing substance use disorders, focusing on reducing social stigma, enhancing the role of the community pharmacist, improving the regulatory inspection framework, and developing more robust field reporting and monitoring systems.
