The community service and extracurricular activities committee at Middle East University, in collaboration with the Sawa’ed al-Saydala student group, organised an awareness campaign designed to reformulate societal perceptions of diabetes. The proceedings were inaugurated by the president of the Jordan Pharmaceutical Association, Dr. Zeid al-Kilani, with the participation of the president of the university, Professor Salam al-Mahadin, the dean of the faculty of pharmacy, Prof. Amjad Abu Rumeileh, and various other subject-matter specialists.
The campaign focused on the delivery of integrated scientific and educational content that addressed the medical, psychological, and nutritional dimensions of the condition. This comprehensive curriculum encompassed the classification of different types of diabetes, the physiological mechanisms of insulin resistance and polycystic ovary syndrome, and the identification of potential complications alongside preventative strategies, with a particular emphasis on diabetic foot care.
The initiative witnessed significant engagement from both students and visitors through interactive stations supervised by students from the faculty of pharmacy. Furthermore, the event featured active involvement from specialised medical institutions, whereby MedLabs and the National Nutrition Centre provided complimentary diagnostic screenings and nutritional consultations, while the YAN company presented the latest advancements in medical injection technologies specifically designed for diabetic patients.
