Students from the Faculty of Information Technology visited the Department of Forensic Laboratories and Criminal Evidence and the Cybercrimes Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department within the Public Security Directorate. The scientific visit was supervised by Dr. Issam Jabreen, Mr. Sadeq Al-Suhaimat, and Mr. Madallah Al-Majali.
The visit aimed to provide a first-hand look at the nature of specialised security work in combating digital crimes and to familiarise students with mechanisms for protecting society from cyber risks. It also sought to enhance students’ understanding of the role of cybersecurity in safeguarding individuals and establishments. The students were introduced to the nature of the work carried out by both departments in pursuing digital cases, including cyber extortion and financial fraud.
Major Murad Al-Rawashdeh from the Laboratories Department and Major Huthaifa Al-Kurdi from the Criminal Investigation Department provided a detailed explanation of the mechanisms for receiving and processing electronic reports. They highlighted the importance of digital evidence and advanced analysing techniques in tracking perpetrators and detecting crimes, whilst reviewing the legal procedures followed from the registration of a complaint until the case is referred to the judiciary.
Furthermore, the students were acquainted with available career opportunities in the field of cybersecurity, in light of the increasing demand for technical competencies and specialised skills in this vital sector.
At the conclusion of the visit, the academic supervisors expressed their gratitude to the Public Security Directorate for the warm reception. They praised the awareness-raising role played by both the Forensic and Criminal Investigation departments, affirming that the visit provided students with a cognitive and practical experience that enriched their academic journey and broadened their professional horizons.
