Middle East University recently commemorated the World Arabic Language Day by hosting a symposium titled “Innovative Pathways for the Arabic Language: Policies and Practices for a More Inclusive Linguistic Future”. Held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, and attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences, Dr. Ayat Al-Maghrabi, the event convened faculty, administrative staff, and the student body to discuss the strategic path of the language in a globalised context.
The proceedings featured a formal poetic debate designed to reinvigorate the connection to classical Arabic literature and refine the linguistic sensibilities of the academic community. Beyond its cultural components, the event functioned as a critical forum to affirm the civilisational significance of the Arabic language while addressing contemporary challenges. Discussions centred on improving teaching methods in higher education, using new technologies to help keep the Arabic language alive, and creating strong policies to promote Arabic around the world.
The ceremony concluded with the recognition of academic excellence, honouring the highest-achieving students within the college for the 2024-2025 academic year. Furthermore, the university celebrated the laureates and organisers of the seventh annual “University Reciter” competition, acknowledging their sustained efforts in fostering Quranic and linguistic proficiency as part of the university’s broader mission of cultural and academic stewardship.
