Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Yacoub Nasereddin, the Department of English Language and Translation at the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences organised its third International Conference, entitled “Insights into Applied English and Translation Studies in the AI Era”. The Association of English Language, Literature, and Translation Professors in Arab Universities collaborated on this event.
Notably, the event was presided over by the University President, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, accompanied by the deans of the respective faculties and members of the academic staff. The conference comprised a series of sessions that spanned two consecutive days, during which a total of 82 research papers pertaining to the English language were deliberated.
In her address, the University President, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, stated:
“What these applications are achieving is an embodiment of the intersection between phonetics and natural language processing algorithms.” This shows how important both theoretical and practical studies in linguistics are for creating fair and unbiased language models.”
She further noted that current artificial intelligence technologies are delineating new parameters for text analysis, discourse generation, and the unveiling of the deep structure of language. This, she argued, raises fundamental questions regarding who is thinking, who is creating, and what remains intrinsically human in an era of AI participation.
In his response, Professor Jihad Hamdan, President of the Association of English Language, Literature, and Translation Professors in Arab Universities, expressed his gratitude for the efforts of Middle East University in providing this opportunity for the third time. The conference served as a platform for Jordanian, Arab, and international academics and researchers to present and discuss their latest research findings in dialogue sessions.
He added that the university stands as an exemplary institution committed to investing in the intellectual capital of Jordanian and Arab researchers and academics and is dedicated to advancing the higher education sector.
The convening of this conference reaffirms the confidence placed in Middle East University and its productive partnership with the Association of English Language, Literature, and Translation Professors in Arab Universities. It also underscores the university’s ongoing commitment to opening new avenues that integrate language, thought, and technology.
