The events of the Jordanian Universities’ Winter Sports have officially commenced. Organised by the Jordan Federation of University Sports (JFUS) under the title “The Leader” Tournament, the games are being held in celebration of the birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein.
The proceedings were formally opened by the President of the Jordan Federation of University Sports and President of Middle East University, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, in the presence of the Governor of Aqaba, HE Ayman Al-Awayisheh, commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, and the presidents of participating public and private universities, as well as deans of student affairs and hundreds of competing students.
In her keynote address, Professor Al-Mahadin stated that “The Leader” Tournament represents a national milestone, reflecting the central importance of university sports in refining the character of young people. She further noted that sport constitutes a fundamental lever in human development and in bolstering an individual’s positive contribution to society.
Furthermore, the tournament, which continues until 13 February, is held in accordance with the High Royal Directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein. These directives stress the importance of investing in youth by supporting the sporting movement, empowering students, and providing an integrated university environment that contributes to the development of physical capabilities. Such efforts aim to solidify the presence of Jordanian universities and ensure their honourable representation in various sporting events.
More importantly, “The Leader” Tournament is set to witness a series of competitions and matches bringing together Jordanian universities and the various participating teams.
