Middle East University and the Royal Jordanian Film Commission (RJFC) are eagerly awaiting the launch of a film academy.

Amman: In the presence of the Vice President of the Board of Directors, Dr. Ahmed Nasereddin, and the Dean of the Faculty of Media, Dr. Hanan Al-Sheikh, Middle East University’s President, Prof. Dr. Salam Al-Mahadeen, met with the Director General of the Royal Jordanian Film Commission, Mr. Muhannad Al-Bakri, and the commission’s delegation.

The meeting is considered a starting point for joint programmes in the film sector that will create an innovative generation capable of breaking the stereotypes associated with the Jordanian film sector and making the leap that all are waiting for.

Dr. Nasereddin stated that the university is fully aware of the demands of the job market, and the scene confirms that we are on the right track. In our partnerships, we always seek effective paths that yield results. Our mission is clear: to invest in minds and develop skills.

He explained that the Faculty of Media at the university has privileged status due to the importance of journalism in building the scene, setting priorities, and formulating solutions, especially at the national level.

In the presence of the Royal Jordanian Film Commission delegation, Al-Bakri affirmed the university’s balanced and reputable academic reputation, noting that this is not out of nowhere, as it is an educational institution that understands the fluctuations of the job market and prepares its students for all upcoming changes, adding: Our attendance at this meeting is in support of the film sector at all levels, including education and professional development. We are pleased to offer our expertise and capabilities to support this initiative.

He stated that a degree is not necessary for a career in cinema, but rather that practical knowledge is key. Cinema is a complex field, and university students may lack focus, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the potential for Jordanian productions to make significant advancements. It is important to avoid falling into the trap of stereotyping or limiting ideas.

Prof. Dr. Al-Mahadeen emphasised the university’s interest in being a reference for all emerging trends in new cinema, pointing out that it is time to put things into perspective, especially with the launch of diploma programmes in modern cinema, as we are faced with a job market that does not only seek degree holders but also holders of ideas that are ahead of their time.

She explained that the university’s study plans align with its sense of responsibility to provide students with the necessary resources to develop their talents and achieve their goals.

In the same context, Dr. Hanan Al-Sheikh said that the university’s strategy is in line with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, who is firmly committed to giving Jordanian cinema the status it deserves, which is reflected in the design and photography labs and film effects rooms in the new building of the faculty.

The Royal Jordanian Film Commission (RFC) is a public institution with administrative and financial independence. Its mission is to promote and contribute to the development of an internationally competitive Jordanian audiovisual industry, organise training workshops and screenings, and provide production support services.

Middle East University was founded in 2005 in Amman, the capital of Jordan, located approximately 15 minutes from the city centre. The university’s campus is secure and conducive to learning, in accordance with the needs of students, academic and administrative bodies, and guests of the university.
The university comprises nine faculties and three academic programmes, namely, bachelor’s degree, higher diploma and master’s degree, in addition to hosted programmes with the most prestigious British universities.
