Dr Haya Yasin, a faculty member in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Middle East University, has achieved international research recognition by receiving the John Snow Award at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE 2026), held in Milan, Italy.
The award is conferred in recognition of the most outstanding research abstract submitted within the researchers and students category. Dr Yasin was selected for her study investigating the application of machine learning techniques to predict the risk of chronic kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. Her research further evaluated the transportability and predictive performance of these computational models across distinct healthcare systems using real-world clinical data.
Specifically, the study leveraged real-world evidence drawn from two independent healthcare systems in Jordan. This methodology enabled the rigorous, independent validation of the models across different healthcare settings, assessing their generalisability and capacity for cross-system application.
