The Jordanian Universities Sporting Federation has concluded its prestigious “The Leader” Championship with a high-profile ceremony held under the patronage of the Minister of Youth, Dr. Raed Al-Adwan. The event, hosted in the coastal city of Aqaba, was attended by Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, President of JUSF and Middle East University, alongside the Governor of Aqaba, Ayman Al-Awayisheh, and various deans of student affairs.
Against this backdrop of high-level representation, the finale served as a testament to the growing significance of university sports in Jordan. Far from being a mere sporting fixture, the championship is increasingly viewed as a vital platform for character building, fostering leadership skills, and encouraging teamwork among the nation’s youth.
In a spirited display of this competitive excellence, the highlight of the closing day was the football final between Al-Balqa Applied University and the University of Petra. Al-Balqa Applied University ultimately secured the top spot, leaving the University of Petra as runners-up, while The Hashemite University and the University of Jordan shared third place.
Following the final whistle, Minister Al-Adwan joined Professor Al-Mahadin and Governor Al-Awayisheh to present cups and medals to the winning teams. The ceremony carried a clear message of appreciation for the athletic dedication shown by all participating institutions.
Reflecting on the event’s broader significance during his keynote address, Dr. Al-Adwan emphasised that university sports represent a “critical investment” in the nation’s youth. He noted that such initiatives are essential not only for physical and mental wellbeing but also for identifying talent and forging leaders capable of contributing to national development.
Expanding on this strategic vision, Dr. Hazem Al-Nsour, Secretary of the JUSF, highlighted that the championship aims to embed a culture of sport as an “integral part of the holistic educational experience”. He remarked that such inter-university competition creates a positive environment for institutional integration and interaction.
The proceedings concluded with a formal commendation of the sponsors and the preparatory committee. Their efforts were recognised for their role in ensuring the championship’s success and for reflecting the increasingly professional standards of the Jordanian university sporting system.
