The Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences recently convened a specialist scientific symposium entitled “Scientific and Legal Responsibilities in DNA Laboratories: The Ethics of Handling Biological Samples”. The seminar, which featured a keynote presentation by a member of the Jordanian Senate, the Honourable Dr. Ghazi Al-Thuneibat, aimed to provide a high-level academic forum for discourse and the exchange of expertise. This initiative sought to deepen the participants’ knowledge and create a positive, sustainable intellectual impact regarding the ethics of scientific research and the rigorous management of biological specimens.
The seminar was organised in response to the rapid advancements in genetic analysis and scientific research techniques, which have necessitated increased ethical and legal accountability for academic institutions and healthcare professionals alike. The discussions underscored the imperative of adhering to professional standards, safeguarding individual privacy, and upholding human dignity. Furthermore, the event emphasised the importance of directing scientific progress towards the betterment of society, ensuring that such developments remain firmly anchored within a robust legal and ethical framework.
