Under the patronage of the President of Middle East University, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin, the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences launched the “Ten Steps Against Diabetes” event, attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Anas Al-Ashram, the Vice Dean, Dr. Samiha Al-Thunaibat, faculty members, and a large number of students.
The event was organised to coincide with World Diabetes Day, which aimed to promote health awareness and encourage students to adopt preventive lifestyles that reduce the incidence of Type 2 diabetes.
During the event, there were ten interactive stages presented by students and faculty members, comprising the testing of blood sugar and blood pressure, as well as the measurement of body composition; the identification of foods with a low glycaemic index; the reading of nutrition labels; and stations on physical activity, meditation, and functional beverages. In addition, there was an innovative combination of art and health.
In her address, Professor Salam Al-Mahadin expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the students and the organisers, affirming the university’s commitment to supporting awareness programmes that promote public health and encourage a healthy lifestyle both on and off campus.
The event witnessed wide interaction from students, as the activities contributed to raising their awareness of preventive behaviours and familiarising them with integrated health applications and their role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
The Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences announced its intention to adopt the “Ten Steps Against Diabetes” event as part of its annual programme, with a view to expanding cooperation with national health institutions to enhance the initiative’s impact within the university and the local community.
