Middle East University commemorates the late Khaled Al-Mahadin at the opening of the ‘Adeeb Min Beladi’ event.

Middle East University opened the first event of its cultural initiative ‘Adeeb Min Beladi’, launched by the Cultural Club of the Deanship of Student Affairs, with an exceptional intellectual seminar dedicated to celebrating the experience of the late Jordanian writer, Khalid Al-Mahadin (1941-2015).

The event, which was held in a remarkable academic and cultural presence, marked the beginning of a series of meetings to be organised in succession, which aim to illuminate the literary paths of Jordanian and Arab symbols of creativity.

At the beginning of the event, Prof. Dr Salam Al Mahadin, President of Middle East University and daughter of the late writer, presented an emotional testimony entitled ‘Khalid Al-Mahadin, the Human Writer’, which was held at the Deanship of Student Affairs.

This was followed by a scientific intervention by Dr. Jazza Al-Masarwah, Professor of Literature at Mu’tah University, entitled ‘Social and Cultural Gestures in the Life of Khalid Al-Mahadin’, through which he presented a multi-level reading of the depths of Al-Mahadin’s character, addressing vital stages of his life based on social and cultural scenes that reflected his role as an intellectual member engaged with his community.

Dr. Samah Al Samirat, a researcher in modern literature, presented an in-depth critical intervention entitled ‘Manifestations of Resurgence, Hope and Rejection of Defeat in the Poetic Form of Khalid Al-Mahadin’, in which she addressed the aesthetic and compositional structure of Al-Mahadin’s poetry, focusing on the antagonistic binaries that formed the depth of his poetic experience, especially the dialectic of pain and hope.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hazem Al-Nsour, affirmed the university’s deep commitment to providing a stimulating cultural and intellectual environment for students, pointing out that such events provide students with analytical, aesthetic, and cognitive skills that help them deal consciously with community issues and the labour market.

At the conclusion of the event, which was presented and moderated by Dr. Jumana Al-Salem, Advisor of the Cultural Club, a faculty member at the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences, the speakers were honoured, and the Dean of Student Affairs handed over the university shield to all those who contributed to the revival of this exceptional event.

Middle East University was founded in 2005 in Amman, the capital of Jordan, located approximately 15 minutes from the city centre. The university’s campus is secure and conducive to learning, in accordance with the needs of students, academic and administrative bodies, and guests of the university.
The university comprises nine faculties and three academic programmes, namely, bachelor’s degree, higher diploma and master’s degree, in addition to hosted programmes with the most prestigious British universities.
