The Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Middle East University organised a scientific field trip to Al-Karak and Tafila governorates, in a real-life embodiment of the university’s mission to link academic knowledge to national issues and sustainable development priorities.
This initiative was conducted in cooperation with the Directorate of Antiquities of Al-Karak Governorate, the Directorate of Antiquities of Tafila Governorate, and the Sons of Dhana and Al-Qadisiyah Cooperative Association.
The students began their tour at Al-Karak Castle, one of the historical fortresses that witnessed key stages of human existence in the region, as well as its surroundings full of heritage buildings and Ottoman marquees that underwent careful restoration that brought life back to their ancient walls and established their presence as cultural radiation centres.
In Tafila, the students conducted a field survey at the Afra Baths, through which they presented preliminary design proposals for an eco-therapeutic spa based on the principles of environmental and architectural sustainability, serving both people and place.
