The Middle East University furnished students from the Faculty of Law with the chance to engage in direct discourse with the Audiovisual Media Authority, affording them a priceless opportunity to gain profound insights into the strategic role of the authority in shaping the national media landscape.
The objective of these visits, which are organised by the university for its students, is to foster talent, disseminate knowledge, and embrace shared visions with different national institutions.
Nancy Al-Khasawneh, Director of Legal Affairs at the authority, stated that the authority’s actions are based on the tenets of key legislative frameworks, including the Press and Publication Law No. 8 of 1998 and the Audiovisual Media Law No. 26 of 1998. She further explained that these laws serve as indispensable instruments in maintaining equilibrium between the rights of freedom of expression and the necessity to regulate in order to safeguard the public interest.
Prof. Ahmad Al-Louzi, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Middle East University, discussed the broader implications of the visit. He highlighted the importance of such engagement for the university’s mission to produce graduates who possess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical expertise. Prof. Al-Louzi highlighted that by providing students with insights into the operational realities of key regulatory bodies such as the Jordan Media Authority, the university is fostering the development of a generation of legal professionals who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of modern legal practice.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Al-Louzi, outlined the rationale behind these visits, which form part of a broader strategy to foster a symbiotic relationship between academic institutions and public regulatory bodies. He underscored the value of this approach in creating a dynamic learning environment where students can engage with the regulatory frameworks they study in a critical and transformative manner, thereby transforming abstract legal principles into concrete skills and insights.
Furthermore, Dr. Ahmad Bilal, a faculty member, elucidated that the visit enabled students to comprehend the pivotal role of the Media Authority in regulating the media sector and to develop a profound understanding of the intricate legal complexities inherent to media regulation. He emphasized that such experiential learning opportunities are indispensable to the development of a comprehensive legal education system, one that not only transmits knowledge but also refines the practical skills essential for success in the job market.
The visit concluded with an exhaustive tour of the authority’s numerous directorates and departments.
